Bolling Plans to Add Native History to It's Website!

Today, Abigail Meyers, an associate PR person at Bolling, called to inform me that the Base is working on adding information on it's Native history to the Base website !

It probably won't be more than 1 or 2 paragraphs, but even that will be much greater than zero!

  1. Here's the follow-up letter sent to Bolling to request a meeting:

    Dear Abigail,

We are delighted to hear about the JBAB plan to include more information recognizing the Native history of the Base. We want to help celebrate and build upon your initiative. Some of our members and allies who can help include:

Chief Jesse James Swann, whose Piscataway native descent is directly related to the Anacostan/Nacotchtank Indians who lived on the Base's land when Captain John Smith first visited in 1608,
Kemi Morten, President of the Bellevue Neighborhood Civic Association, who is interested in the rich history of the African Americans, both enslaved and free, who have been an important part of the area's history before the Base was built, and
    DC Archaeologist, Ruth Trocolli
I request we schedule a meeting for all to become better acquainted and explore ways to help with additions to the Base website history and other sources of public information on these important topics.

    Best wishes,

    Armand
